Environmental Management

Basic Approach

The TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP recognizes environmental protection as a fundamental corporate responsibility. We work to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities while advancing initiatives that help build a sustainable society, pursuing continuous improvement through our environmental management system.

Basic Environmental Philosophy and Policy

To contribute to a sustainable society and the conservation of the global environment, we have established the TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP Basic Environmental Philosophy and Policy.

Environmental Vision 2030

In 2019, taking stock of the state of the global environment and the challenges it presents, the TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP formulated Environmental Vision 2030 as its long-term path toward a sustainable society. The vision defines the society we aim to help realize as one that is decarbonized, circular, and in harmony with nature. By expanding the environmental contribution of our products and services and reducing the environmental impact of our operations, we intend to play our part in building that society.

Environmental Management Structure

The TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP has built an environmental management system (EMS) conforming to ISO 14001 and operates it at its principal production sites. Each site and business unit maintains its own environmental management structure and pursues environmental targets and improvement activities based on its business plan.

Decarbonized Society

Basic Approach

Climate change driven by global warming is making weather disasters such as extreme heat and severe flooding more frequent and more severe, with a growing impact on daily life. The TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP regards climate change as one of the critical issues it must address, and is actively pursuing the transition to a decarbonized society through energy conservation, the installation of solar power generation facilities, and the procurement of electricity from renewable sources.

2030 Target

Reduce CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by at least 42% from the FY2021 level, in line with the SBT 1.5°C pathway.

Emission Reduction Initiatives

Renewable Energy

Alongside its own generating facilities, the TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP has installed solar power systems under on-site PPA arrangements at four locations since 2022 to expand its use of renewable energy. We also procure locally sourced renewable energy on a planned basis, including hydroelectric power generated in Toyama Prefecture, so that reducing CO2 emissions goes hand in hand with local production for local consumption. In FY2024 we began using off-site PPAs as well, establishing a stable renewable energy supply structure. Together, these efforts have brought our renewable energy adoption rate to 97.3%.

Energy Conservation

Following the switch to LED lighting throughout our plants and offices in FY2019, we continue to pursue further energy savings by installing and upgrading high-efficiency equipment, optimizing operating controls, improving how equipment is run, and shortening operating hours.

  • Replacing equipment with high-efficiency models and improving and optimizing how it is operated
  • Reducing energy consumption by keeping equipment running stably
  • Energy-saving measures driven by power monitoring displays (real-time monitoring and verification of the effect of each measure)
  • Streamlining operations through digital transformation

Promoting Resource Recycling

Basic Approach

Making effective use of resources is fundamental to the TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP. Guided by the 3Rs — reduce, reuse, and recycle — we work to minimize the waste generated by our business activities and to use finite resources carefully as we advance resource circulation. We also recognize water as an important resource and manage it appropriately throughout our operations.

Environmental Initiatives Across the Product Life Cycle

We consider the entire product life cycle — from development and design through raw material procurement, manufacturing, sales and transportation, and use to disposal and recycling — and work to reduce environmental impact and make effective use of resources.

A Society in Harmony with Nature

Basic Approach

The TATEYAMA KAGAKU GROUP places a high value on living in harmony with the natural environment and is working toward a sustainable society that coexists with nature. We take part in activities alongside our local communities, such as neighborhood clean-ups and conservation projects, and we work to reduce the environmental impact of our operations by managing environmental risks and handling chemical substances appropriately.
